Are you living the life of your dreams? Most of us are not. In fact, many of us have given up on our dreams and see them as elusive and “probably never going to happen”. I lived many years of my life this way and it’s all too easy to fall into this trap.
Do you remember when you were in your teens or early twenties? Did you have a passion for something back then? Wanted to take on the world but the world beat you down? Aiming to reach for the skies but didn’t make it past the tree tops?
I did. In my late teens and into my early twenties I was wanting to change the world and make it a better place to live. I had lofty goals (although looking back at them, I see that none of those goals were clearly defined) but I lacked the self-confidence to see them through. That along with a habit of starting things but not completing them led me down the path of struggle and survival for most of my years.
Now I’ve reached the age of 47 and I’ve learned so much about the way my life works and although I don’t struggle for survival the way I used to, there is still a huge gap between the way my life is today versus the life I dream of living.
Here’s the thing. I may not have achieved my dream life yet, and I do mean yet, but I have not given up. I’m holding on more tightly than ever to the dream I had as a young adult. The older I get (and am starting to feel) the more motivated I am becoming towards creating my dream life.
Where are you at when it comes to living the life of your dreams? Have you just about given up? Are you barely holding on because you have no idea how it’s going to happen? Or are you grabbing on with both hands, heels in the dirt until it comes true?
If nothing changes in your life over the next 10 years, will you be happy with your life?
In my case, the answer is no! I won’t just stay stagnant and live my life in the same old way that I have until now. That is not an option for me. If you’re honest, the answer is no for you too. We can all use improvement in our lives, nobody has “made it” when it comes to living a human life.
This is where you and I need to get to if you are going to revitalize your dream and make it a real possibility for you. I am encouraging you to take this step for yourself in your own life. Don’t settle, grab life by the horns, forget about how it’s going to happen, and get clear about what you desire to achieve in your life.
It all starts with a vision (your destination).
So, you have a dream that still lingers on, or you have put aside for a while and want to rekindle it. That’s awesome! Or maybe you haven’t allowed yourself to dream about what you desire because you felt it was futile or a waste of time or you just don’t know what you desire! Either way, there is a lifestyle you have considered at one point in your life that you would like to achieve that you have not yet manifested. That’s a great starting point!
Your first step is to give that vision (dream) more clarity. You need to define your dream in the big picture without trying to determine how it will happen. Never mind how it’s going to happen, this is not your concern. You must have the destination in mind. Stephen Covey in his book the 7 Habits of Highly Effective People said it best by stating one of the habits as begin with the end in mind.
If you’re going on a trip, a vacation, you need to know the destination right? Do you go to the airport and say, book me on a vacation to where ever! Well, as much fun as that might sound, nobody does that! Why? Because most of us have a vision of where we desire to go, save for it, plan, make sure to bring the right attire and stuff, and work towards getting there. Makes perfect sense.
You want to define all the nuances of your vision. How it feels, how it tastes, how it looks, how it smells, what it sounds like. The more sensory input you can put into your vision, the more powerful it will be.
So now that you have a vision for what you desire and you have some clarity on what it looks, feels, tastes, sounds and smells like, then what? You will use all this sensory input to fuel the creation of your vision.
Vision is not enough, you need power too.
The second step for you to make this a reality in your life is to bring some energy to your vision in order to power it up so that it manifests more rapidly. The purpose of this article is to provide you to basic tools for achieving the life of your dreams and this is how to do it.
You are a creative being, and as such, you have the power to attract the people, the things and the experiences in your life that support you in achieving your desires. Having a clear vision is awesome and it’s the first step, but you need to energize the vision with power if you want it to move into 3 dimensional space.
If you want to build a house, what is one of the first things you need? A blueprint, right? The vision is the blueprint, but you need something to do the heavy lifting. Emotion is the power that will move your vision in the direction of becoming reality. Your emotion is like hiring the contractor to build that awesome house of yours. You need to hold your vision in your mind and feel the feelings of it’s reality as if it exists right now in your heart for the manifestation to take place.
You don’t need to give it that much energy and attention for it to work either. You are a creative being so it will work regardless if you just maintain your vision with any kind of frequency. The vision is like a car, and feeling the emotion of seeing your vision as if it is already your reality is like giving your car high-octane gasoline and stepping on the gas pedal!
Since I was a teenager I desired to live in British Columbia, Canada. At 17 I even took a trip out there with a friend of mine with the intent to move there. We took a “drive through” vehicle, actually it was a Datsun 280 ZX that was required to be in Calgary. We were in Montreal at the time so we would drive it across the country to Calgary and drop off the car at an auto dealership.
By the time we got to Calgary, we had used up most of our financial resources for gas, to eat and we still needed to get ourselves all the way to Vancouver. Finally we arrived at 11 at night in Vancouver 2 days later and I called a friend of mine who knew we were coming and told him we had arrived. To my shock, this friend promptly told me that it was not a good time for him. What?! Not a good time? I had told him we were coming, here we were with barely any resources in a strange city with no support! I felt crushed!
At age 17, no resources, no food, no support, no place to stay, with a friend who only spoke French, I was in a hard place. My friend had just enough money to get both of us back to Montreal on a bus ride. I was scared, not knowing where to turn, I abandoned my dream of moving to Vancouver and I took my friend up on his offer to get us home.
Sounds like I had a dream and it didn’t come true, right? One thing I didn’t mention… timing. Time doesn’t mean anything to the Universe which provides us the vision, power and creation of our dreams.
My dream wasn’t gone, it was just on hold…
It took 13 years to manifest an easy, effortless way to move to Victoria, British Columbia through a series of events that basically made the experience and process a no brainer.
I did not give it much energy or thought through those waiting years either, just a base desire to move out West and make it my home. I just thought about it once in a while and it took 13 years to come true!!!
What do you think would have happened if I focused regularly on moving to British Columbia at age 17? What if I had given that vision energy, visualized it, and felt the feelings of being there already? What if I did this on a regular and consistent basis?
I’ll tell you, I would have moved out West much, much sooner! I may have shed 10-12 years off my moving time, but who knows, right? I had to deal with healing myself enough to have the experience be effortless and I moved when it was the right time for me in my life to move. I left the timing to the Universe to determine when the right time was. It was what it was based on how much effort I put into the vision.
So this leads to the third step in creating the life of your dreams. Let go of your agenda. The universe will take your vision, and your emotion to fuel that vision, but you can’t make it happen on your own terms. This is counter productive and could slow down the process. I’m not saying don’t do anything to support your desires, by all means take actions towards manifesting your dreams wherever possible, it’s a must! But don’t be attached to when the results happen, don’t be too stuck on how it should look. When the Universe lines up, your results will begin to conspire for you in a way that will be relatively effortless. Or at the very least, the way to achieve what you desire will be made clear to you.
You are far more powerful than you have been made aware of. In the next article, I’ll explain in greater detail the ways that you are so powerful and how to use your inherent way of being to your advantage so that you can create your dream life faster, and more efficiently.
The missing ingredient of “The Secret”
Did you read the book or watch the movie “The Secret”. It was all about the law of attraction, but there was something missing in that book and movie. What I have outlined in this article is very much in alignment with the Law of Attraction, but I will provide you the missing piece that was not in the book or the movie.
Before I do, let me ask you this… Why do you think you have not achieved your dream life yet? I mentioned lack of self-confidence and follow through for myself, and that may be part of it for you too, but what else do you think may be stopping you from achieving your life’s greatest desires?
In a nutshell, it’s your past. Each of us grew up with parents or parental figures that taught us how to live, what to believe, what was possible, what we were worth and basically defined everything we believe we are.
Ok, so what were some of those influences? Did the people who raised you demonstrate that you were lovable, capable of doing and being anything you wanted in life? Did they love you unconditionally and treat you like the valuable being that you are? Did they boost your self-esteem and self-confidence and encourage you to go for what you wanted in life?
If you did have that kind of love and support, that is fantastic! For most of us, however, this was not the case. We may have had moments of love and support, here and there, but to the impressionable mind of a child, it does not take much to have us feel like much less than we are.
For the most part, no matter how bad our childhood may have been, those that raised us did the best they could with what they had.
Now if you were abused badly as a child, it may be very difficult to see it this way. Psychologically speaking, if someone hurts another person really badly, especially a defenseless child, they have to have been suffering themselves pretty intensely to be able to do that to another human being. I’m not making it ok by saying this. The world is filled with billions of stories and examples of abuse of the worst kind and none of it is ok. I’m simply pointing out that we are not inherently wired to hurt and abuse each other like that, these behaviours are learned.
The reason this is important to keep in mind is because how you feel about yourself based on your past will determine 95% of how your life will play out UNLESS you do some healing around these past issues.
Yes, what I’m saying is you and I need to do healing work around our past issues if we are to be clear enough to attract and draw to us the life we desire to live. Otherwise we won’t do what we need to do to make the life of our dreams come true. We’ll hold ourselves back because we subconsciously believe we don’t deserve it, or we are not enough, or we are too stupid, or wrong, or unworthy. You get the idea.
For example, if as a child you were taught that you didn’t deserve good things in life, that you were not worthy of the best life has to offer and you never do any healing around these beliefs that were instilled upon you at such a young impressionable age, how could you possibly allow yourself to have these things as an adult in life?
If you don’t feel like you deserve, how can you attract things like a nice car or a nice house, or a great job or business, or a loving relationship or any other worthy accomplishment? Even if you happen to manifest something good in your life, if you have not healed the hurt and pain from your childhood in these areas, you will most likely sabotage your good fortune and possibly end up worse that before. Has this ever happened to you? It has for me, many times!
I have been fortunate to attract to me the opportunity to work on healing my past. I have done so for many years now and there is definite progress that has been made. The result? Well, one example, for most of my life I have struggled financially, always wondering how my rent would get paid, how to afford enough food, never taking any vacations and basically living in poverty. In the last several years I have made great strides and improvements in this area of my life.
I no longer worry about money and where it comes from, I buy whatever groceries I want when I want to. My rent and bills are all paid and up to date. I’ve started a savings account for the first time in my life where I pay myself 10% of my income, before anything else goes out. This is moving me in the direction of abundant financial flow and I am holding the vision to finally be able to buy my own house, to have money to invest and grow my business and become financially free!
At several points in my life, this vision seemed grim at best, but I have moved past all that and finally the seeds have been planted and I’m starting (just starting!) to see the results in my life. There are more areas that I desire to improve in my life,of course, but recognizing the progress I have made so far is fueling my desire, vision and emotion towards achieving all of my dreams!
This is possible for you too. If you have emotional blocks that are holding you back, get counselling, find energy workers in your area, take a personal growth workshop or two and dig into those dark areas and you’ll soon start to clear the air and open up space in your life to live the life you’ve always dreamed of! You deserve it, this is who you inherently are, and you are creating your life whether you do it consciously or not. Why not create the life of your dreams consciously and shape your life in the way you’ve always wanted? This is your time!
